José Herazo-Osorio’s Work is a conceptual disintegration of the human experience. Movement, action, and color create unity out of the cosmic chaos to express his inner feelings towards a reality.
In the 1960’s during his early days as a painter, he was interested in the surreal symbolism of figures and colors. The 1970’s and 1980’s was a period of self-searching when he painted for his own pleasure and did not have art exhibits. Even though the artist does not like labels, during those two decades his work moved from surrealism to abstractionism, from cartoons to commercial art and journalism. Then came the 1990’s when he abandoned interpretations and disintegrations of forms, and decided to paint what he saw without post mental arguments, and he painted real nature, objects and humans per se, without elucidations. José Herazo-Osorio was born in Barranquilla, Colombia where he studied art and worked as a journalist and cartoonist for Colombian newspapers, such as El Espectador and El Heraldo. In 1969 he moved to Florida, USA, where he currently lives. He is an experienced traveller with great interest in art galleries and museums that he always visits during his trips. He is an acute observer of nature and human behavior that he absorbs to project in his art. Herazo-Osorio has participated in juried art exhibits winning awards for the quality of his art. His paintings show the disintegration of human experiences through color and movement. His art carries the bright colors and constant movement of forms from tropical lands that are the origin of his existence. His works have been shown in one-person and group exhibitions in many places in the USA and Colombia, including Coral Springs Museum of Arts, Old Davie School Historical Museum, Salón de las Américas in Coral Gables, Design Gallery of the Americas in Miami, The Raymond F Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach, Centro Colombo-Americano in Barranquilla and Bogotá, Galería La Mansarda in Bogotá, among others. |
