I am interested in the natural state of our environment and at the same time I am concerned with its decay. The vastness of our universe along with the mysteries within it, provide me with the inspiration to paint the indefinite and at times unidentified imagery prevalent in my paintings. I like to explore interconnecting forms and their relationships to awaken and derive insightful inquiries from the viewer.
My work explores my unsettling dreams. I thoroughly enjoy the process of completing a painting without knowing what my final product will look like. I allow emerging forms to lead my thoughts. I feel that the forms I create grow organically as they connect with one another. My work develops as layers of matter that intertwine. I let one emerging form lead to the next. Oil paint is a flexible and docile medium and never interferes with this process.

I was born in the province of Cienfuegos, Cuba in March of 1949. I began my artistic career forty five years ago. My formal artistic training took place at the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts in the city of Habana. I completed my studies in 1979 with a concentration in painting, printmaking and sculpture.
For many years I worked the Landscape genre by creating a series that depicted ecological purity and idealism. Painting landscapes allowed me to connect with nature and its essential characteristics. I also specialized in creating miniature oil paintings. However, parallel to the landscapes, I developed a series of paintings that served as a venue for expressing my imagination and often my distress with the socio-political happenings around me.
In the year 1980, due to my political views, I attempted to immigrate to the United States from Cuba. Consequently, for the next 15 years, I was denied access to exhibit my work or even work in any art related field. Although all doors closed for me in the art circles of Habana, I remained loyal to my passion and continued to paint. In 1995, I moved to Miami.
Throughout my artistic career several themes haven been pervasive in my work. The fusion of Spanish Christianity and Afro-Cuban deities is one that continues to interest me. In addition, I am highly concerned with the human misuse of the natural environment and its earthly resources. This last theme prevails in my latest series of paintings.
