After demonstrating abilities in Craft and Engineering in my younger days at school I served time as an apprentice Heavy vehicle mechanic in CIE. I then returned to College first in the Galway Technical Institute where I studied an introduction course in Furniture Design and Manufacture. From here I was offered a place In the Letterfrack School of excellence in Connemara where I undertook a course in Furniture Design and Manufacture. Here I honed skills in Craft joinery and bespoke high level woodworking. The course was totally based in timber species and stemmed from a long tradition of cabinet making high level skills. However we did investigate the use of complimentary materials. In my final year I departed from the use of timber completely and worked in the materials I use today for my Installation sculptors. Acrylic being the main material fused with glass and often organic materials. After finishing in Letterfrack I established Design Onion with the backing of the Craft Council Of Northern Ireland. This was a Bespoke Furniture Joinery where we specialised in one off high end pieces of furniture. I also Lectured Wood Science in the Portadown University. We were invited to exhibit in the prestigious Milan Fair. I returned to Limerick to concentrate on creating an exhibition for my Sculpture work. Due in the Summer of 2011.
