Each pose tells an intrinsically and aesthetically valuable story, and the viewer adds to the tale through his or her own experiences. The figure is how we as people relate to the world in a basic sense. There is no story the human body cannot tell. I find that by harnessing our instinctual interest in the human figure, I can best relate didactic themes from the image to the viewer. I find gestural nudes in minimal environments keep the focus on the figure while opening up the ground for interpretation by the viewer. Work begins with drawings from life using the model, still life or landscape. Following these sessions, an open-ended period of reflection upon the works helps me find the narrative meant to be told, and the medium through which it is best conveyed. Colin attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He divided his time between his pursuit of scientific learning and expansion of his artistic ambition. Scientific illustration, and its rigorous demands for detail and precision coupled with research into the subject matter, seemed a natural fit for the young man. While pursuing this focus, however, Colin became enamored with the figure and the infinite expression possible within the human form. After graduation, he continued to develop his relationship with the figure, employing many unconventional techniques discovered through his experience in scientific illustration.
