Painting that is immediate, but not easy, that speaks without being chatty. The painting of Chrys Roboras. The landscapes expansive atmospheric surfaces, with minimal, implied particulars. The figures realistic: solitary, seen from a distance at a height. Usually, they walk – decisively, casually, tentatively... Occasionally, they stand – a brief pause in their wandering.
This idea has concerned Chrys Roboras over the last four years in her previous series “No Man's Land.” The concept has now evolved into this new series of paintings, were the figures are larger and dominant. The paintings carry on the notion of being alone, but give us the feeling of being adapted to their environment. It is said that the closer an artist is to the subject, the more likely it is that the expression will be genuine. Indeed, Chrys has every reason to know the vast uncertain landscapes of faraway continents, and to feel that double-edged relationship between man and nature. From this persp |
