Statement :   I was a choreographer and modern dancer for most of my life. It is the balance between energy and stillness that I focus on in my art. I manipulate acrylic, oil, charcoal and pastels, and collage, as I draw into paint. I rely on my own experiences as a dancer, teacher, artist, administrator, wife, mother, sister, and daughter to create paintings that reflect motion to evoke emotion. While painting, I begin as I would when I was a dancer choreographing a dance, one element moving into the next. I begin with a line that takes a form, and then deepens with color, culminating into an expressionistic, impressionistic experience. I am constantly rediscovering new ideas in this process. I attempt to depict a natural stillness, while knowing the contradiction; nothing can remain still for very long, and why should it? Movement is inherent to growth. I reflect this discord in a gesture and painterly fashion. I look to the masters of Art History to help me guide my way, Matisse, Modiglia
Information :

I have received a MFA in Dance from Temple University and a Master’s of Teaching Art from the University of the Arts. I have traveled to San Miguel, Mexico to study painting. I have a studio at Sherman Mills East Falls, and I am a member and Director of MUSE Gallery, one of the oldest artists run cooperative in Philadelphia, and Inliquid.com. I was a decorative painter for many years. In 1990, I received an award from the Philadelphia Mayor’s for my contribution to the arts as the Executive Director of the Community Education Center (The CEC) in West Philadelphia. As a choreographer, I received grants from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and the Painted Bride Art Center. I have had an extensive career teaching art to students of all levels and ages. My teaching is an integral part of my art making process. I never stop growing as an artist by listening to others and empowering students to create in their own personal style. I have taught drawing and painting to children and adults in Philadelphia for over ten years.

Bathing The Cat emanates a feeling of feminine strength. The colors are both bold and luscious. A perfect piece to celebrate Women's history month.

I love the soft colors and free forms in Almighty, the juxtaposition is exactly what made me fall in love with De Kooning, and now with you!
